Therapeutic drawing

This week I shared an activity I really enjoy doing, and posted about in ‘Reach for the crayons…’, from the Lisa Congdon online Sketchbook series (  The group was a small one in a community residential program, and after a more serious inquiry about self care, we continued the conversation into the science behind drawing and then had some fun.

We chose our materials from a selection of coloured pencils, markers and crayons, and small and larger papers. As we created, we shared our emerging experiences of happy childhood times, visits to the seaside, carousels and carnivals, and other memories. Smiles and laughter filled the air.

I felt a lightness of being as I left the session. I wonder if the experience will be the same the next time I share this activity? Can’t wait to see what emerges.
